Facilitation

Strategic and Action Planning

A clear plan provides direction, a living plan inspires action, and a participatory plan creates shared vision.  A participatory process creates an organizational plan with a clear sense of agreed-upon priorities and values. We work with clients to determine what kind of planning—long-term, strategic, or action—best matches their desired results. We use innovative participatory processes to involve stakeholders at every relevant level. We assist organizations to identify unarticulated goals, clarify direction, develop organizational and team consensus and vet obstacles as well as solutions for success.  We ensure a planning document becomes a “living plan”—providing on-going support for successful implementation through key milestones and continued accountability.

Retreat Planning & Facilitation

Retreating for reflection and renewal, connection and celebration. Retreats provide a unique opportunity to leave behind daily interruptions. We work with clients to design an event that maximizes retreat time and customize an agenda that achieves core objectives. Whether for staff, board, steering committee or project team, we facilitate retreats that renew purpose, build or deepen working relationships and collaboration, strategize a new direction, or celebrate organizational milestones. We specialize in retreats that renew commitment and deepen trust amongst team members and allow for needed changes to begin.

Work Group & Meeting Facilitation

Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success. Facilitation by an outside neutral third party is a crucial resource to draw out a group’s most creative thinking or skillfully handle controversial decisions. When a member of the group facilitates the meeting, they are unlikely to be able to stay neutral or fully participate; as a result, the best thinking of the group as whole is lost.  As professional facilitators, we commit to create a neutral and safe environment so that every member can contribute fully. We also support a group to work through change, controversy or conflict. We do this in a way that keeps the group intact, maintains the integrity of each member and helps each person recognize that the real needs of both the collective and individual are mutually supportive.

Teaching Facilitation Skills

Developing internal capacity for long-term organizational success.  People who excel in subject matter expertise are often enlisted as leaders yet these people are rarely trained in key skills to harness group wisdom. We have internationally Certified Professional Facilitators© and assessors who design beginning, intermediate and advanced-level facilitation training for in-house staff, managers, or fellows. Working from the core facilitation competencies developed by the International Association of Facilitators, LJS provides practical and interactive workshops and mentoring to learn, practice, integrate and excel in these competencies.
